Good News Friday

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.

He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,
and provide for those who grieve in Zion—

to bestow on them a crown of beauty
instead of ashes,
the oil of joy
instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.

They will be called oaks of righteousness,
a planting of the Lord
for the display of his splendor.

(Isaiah 61:1-3 NIV)

Photos of the Christ-thorn plants were taken in the Temperate House at the Missouri Botanical Gardens, while I was visiting the garden on Thursday. How timely that they were blooming during Holy Week.

  2. Hi Kel,
So glad that I stopped by, because, for some reason, I didn't receive your notification about your post in my inbox. I so love this passage from Isaiah, and your photos are lovely (you are such a really gifted photogrpaher)! I recognize these from the Temperate House, and I'm sure that Sheridan would too. She has had to draw there for class.
I wish you and your family a most joyous Easter. Thank God, He came to set us prisoners free!
    Love
    Lynni
